A Brief History of Gymnastics
- The 1924 Olympics in Paris established the model for the modern Olympic games.
- In 1928 female gymnasts first competed in the Olympics.
- In 1936 U.S. female gymnasts first competed in the Olympics.
- In the past, when scored in a competition, a gymnast was able to receive a "perfect 10" for their performance. Now however, there is no perfect score and the gymnast with the highest score is the winner.
- During a competition, judges evaluate gymnasts using four categories: form, height and distance, landing, and routine creativity. All of these requirements can be achieved in a back tuck using the laws of physics. Continue reading to learn more!
